In a recent report for Engineers Canada, Prof. Amirfazli provides an in depth analysis of technological trends that will impact profession of engineering in Canada and arguably globally. This work, co-authored by Prof. Maxwell and Ms. Martino, highlights how transition to low carbon systems and electrification, application of AI, system complexities due multi-disciplinary and multi-jurisdictional nature of engineering work going forward will shape the profession and necessities system level thinking and knowledge. The authors also point to the new ethical dilemma created due to technological trends discussed, and shift in societal expectation that goes beyond public interest as normally understood, to include social justice paradigm.
