Surface Engineering & Instrumentation Lab (SEil)

An exciting project in the area of bio-inspired sensor development for monitoring wound healing and drug delivery is available at SEiL This is a fundamental work that needs combining principles of material/polymer science, surface phenomena and microfluidics, biomaterials, and instrumentation to develop the next generation wound dressings systems.

The ideal candidate has experience in working with alginate, and
pH sensitive dyes, as well as working knowledge of Matlab (image processing) and basic data I/O. Having used microfluidics to generate double emulsion or single droplets is an asset, as well as basic experiences with handling biological samples (in-vitro). But the most important qualification is an aptitude to learn new knowledge initiative and hands-on experimental skills in a relevant engineering or science background. A PhD in any of the following fields with relevant experience is a requirement: Mechanical, Chemical, or Material Engineering, Physics, or chemistry.

The start date for this position is May 1, 2022 or soon after finding the appropriate candidate. The position is for 1 year with possibility of extension for a 2no year. The responsibilities aside form working on the above position includes, supervising undergraduate projects, writing scientific papers, and grant applications, as well as some of the lab management duties. Together all such responsibilities provide the successful candidate with a wealth of professional skills to help them in their future endeavors. This project is in collaborations with a number of European collaborators and opportunities for working with other scientists and visits to the labs exists.
